Making a sandwich
Movers groups have been learning how to write instructions. We had to write a list with bullet points and then write instructional sentences using verbs adverbs and time connectives.
The children decided that they wanted to write the instructions for making a Sandwich, the best bit was making the sandwiches. We had to read each step carefully and ensure that we had done exactly what was asked of us...otherwise we might not have ended up with a sandwich. We have joined this topic to a World Television Day and have recorded our own video making a sandwich. It was such a success!
Also we have learnt that the sandwich got its name from 18th Century English nobleman John Montague, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, who regularly ordered meat between two pieces of bread. The story goes that he liked this meal so much because he could eat his meat and continue to play cards without getting his hands messy with grease. Soon people started ordering “the same as Sandwich”, and the name has stuck ever since! Even though he is not the inventor of sandwiches, Sandwich is the name that has gone down in history.
